Terminology

RIS

Refractive Index Shaping

Describes the process of using a femtosecond laser to change the refractive index of the targeted material by staying within the RIS min and RIS max shaping levels.

IOL

Intraocular Lens

The platform for the RIS lens

PW

Phase Wrapping

The algorithm used to allow the modification of a very thin layer. The phase wrapping lens can be explained as a advanced Fresnel lens. The main three difference between a phase wrapping lens and a fresenel lens are
1) The curvature is preserved
2) The lens can be shaped with a 90degree angle for the zones
3) A micrometer precision is used for the shaping process

NIMO

Lambda-X NIMO TR0815

The NIMO is a refractive intraocular lens power mapper and wavefront analyser. It offers the highest resolution of the market and provides values for every single camera pixel.

DIC

Differential interference contrast microscopy

The DIC microcope works on the principle of interferometry and allows to visibilize otherwise invisible features. It is used in our reserach to look at the refractive index change inside the polymer.

AOM

Acousto-optic modulator

The AOM uses sound waves to diffract and shift the frequency of light
It can be used as a shutter for the laser to allow pattern shaping and it can also be used to modulate the energy of the beam.
